- Sachin Tendulkar was voted Cricketer of the Generation by a 50-member jury of current and former cricketers and journalists, beating the likes of spin legend Shane Warne and all-rounder Jacques Kallis at the ESPNcricinfo awards. The award was meant to honor the most outstanding cricketer between the years 1993 and 2013.
- A new lot of silver coins bearing retired cricket great Sachin Tendulkar’s face embossed on them along with the number of Tests (200) he had played was launched by Valuemart Gold & Jewels, in association with Diamond India in Mumbai.
- NTPC has approved an investment of 14366.58 crore rupees for its Karanpura thermal power project in Jharkhand.
- CCI has imposed a penalty of 18.38 crore on BCDA and its office bearers over anti-competitive practices in supply of the medicines.
- Former president and leader of Sierra Leone, Ahmad Tejan Kabbah died on 13 March 2014 in Freetown at the age of 82.
- An arrest warrant was today issued against Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade on visa fraud charges after her fresh indictment by US prosecutors who accused her of illegally underpaying and exploiting her domestic maid. The indictment states that the diplomat knowingly made multiple false representations and presented false information to US authorities in order to obtain a visa for a personal domestic worker. According to prosecutors, Khobragade claimed she paid the woman $4,500 a month, but actually paid her around $3 per hour and made her to work for more hours.
- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a safety mobile application named "Raksha" (security). The mobile app allows women to sound an alarm in case of an emergency. The application is conceptualised by party spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi. It will create a group of trusted people who can be alerted, offer a map view for easy navigation and has a loud buzzer too.
- Researchers discovered the largest yellow star, HR 5171 A measuring 1300 times more than the diameter of sun and nearly 12000 light-years from Earth.
- The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) on 13th March 2014 developed its first ever cloud based open-source Web-GIS tool. The tool was developed to estimate the rooftop solar power potential for Indian cities. TERI was established in 1974 for research activities in the fields of energy, environment and sustainable developments.
- Tomas Halik (65), the Czech priest won the Templeton Prize for 2014. The award was announced by the John Templeton Foundation on 13 March 2014 and under the award he will receive 1.1 million Euro.
- Goldman Sachs Asset Management announced the launch of CPSE (central Public Sector Enterprise) ETF new fund offer.
- The FICCI-KPMG report on Indian civil aviation released at the Hyderabad.
- World’s first solar-powered waterless toilet will be unveiled in India this month. Designed and built using a grant of $7,77,000 from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the self-contained, water-less toilet with its innovative technology converts human waste to biochar, a highly porous charcoal. It aims to provide an Eco-friendly solution to help some of the 2.5 billion people around the world lacking safe and sustainable sanitation.
- An international team of astronomers has spotted the largest yellow star ever discovered, ranking among the 10 largest stars found so far. Named "HR 5171 A", it is a hyper-giant star that has more than 1300 times the diameter of the Sun. Using the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope Interferometer, the astronomers determined that the yellow star is about a million times brighter than the Sun and 50% larger than the famous red super-giant, Betelguese.
- It was a mixed day for the Indian shuttlers at the $1,25,000 Swiss Grand Prix Gold on Saturday. While PV Sindhu recorded an impressive win over All England Champion Shixian Wang, Indian ace shuttler Saina Nehwal failed to make it to the semi-finals.
- President issued notification regarding second and third phase of Lok Sabha elections. According this notification Lok Sabha elections will be held on 9th April 2014 and 10th April 2014 in which 93 constituencies spread across 18 states which includes Delhi. On 9th April elections will be held in 7 constitutions in 5 states. On 10th April 2014, election will be held in 86 constituencies in 13 states including 7 in Delhi.
