- Ancient caves depicting 7000 years old civilization discovered in Andhra Pradesh. Researcher K Ramakrishna Reddy has discovered a group of caves inhibited by ancient humans in Akkampalli of Andhra Pradesh.

- WHO certifies India as a polio-free nation. According to the international guidelines, a country or region has to be polio-free at least for three years to qualify to be declared polio-free. India touched this milestone in January this year. Minister of Health Ghulam Nabi Azad received the certificate on behalf of India. Along with India another 11 south East Asian countries received this certificate from WHO.
