- World Autism Awareness Day Observed on 2 April 2014. This was the 7th Autism day. Aim of this day is to create awareness and to raise funds.
- Election Commission allows RBI to issue new bank licences. The central board of directors of the RBI is expected to clear the list of companies eligible to get a bank licence at its meeting. Reserve Bank grants approval to IDFC Ltd and Bandhan Financial Services to start new banks.
- Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Serik Akhmetov has resigned today. It has been accepted by President Nursultan Nazarbayev. Akhmetov was appointed Prime Minister in September 2012.
- RBI adopts new CPI as key measure of inflation. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor, Raghuram Rajan, said that the central bank had adopted the new Consumer Price Index (CPI) (combined) as the key measure of inflation. Earlier, RBI had given more weightage to Wholesale Price Index (WPI) than CPI as the key measure of inflation for all policy purposes.
- Young Achiever Award 2013 achieved by Vinoth Kumar. He achieved this award for his contribution to the society in the field of agricultural. Currently he is acting as Assistant Professor in the department of Remote sensing and Geographical Information System, Tamilnadu Agricultural University.
- World Bank to double lending to India, China, Brazil, Mexico and Indonesia. Jim Yong Kim, the President of World Bank on 1 April 2014 announced that the bank would nearly double its lending capacity to boost support for middle countries like India, Brazil, China, Mexico and Indonesia.
- Japan announced Official Development Assistance (ODA) loan for more than 15000 crore rupees for 5 Indian Projects on 31 March 2014. This is the largest amount in the history of the ODA loans ever signed in the single occasion.
- Ministry of Civil Aviation has issued No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the Joint venture of Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines. This venture is to start full service domestic airlines. This venture is known as Tata SIA venture.
- Adarsh Shastri, grandson of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri to be AAP candidate for Allahabad seat.
- Congress President Sonia Gandhi files nomination from Rae Bareli. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has fielded Ex-MP and former Chhattisgarh High Court Judge Fakhruddin against Congress President Sonia Gandhi in Rae Bareli.
- India claim number one spot in ICC rankings. Riding on their superb unbeaten run in the World Twenty20 Championships so far, the Indian cricket team toppled Sri Lanka to clinch the top spot in the ICC rankings issued today.
- Lee Kun-hee, Chairman of Samsung Electronics, is facing $ 1.4 million cheating case. Case filed against him. Accordingly he needs to appear at Ghaziabad court, as per the directions of the Supreme Court. He is 72 years old.
- India increased the scholarships for Omani student from 125 to 150 on 1 April 2014. The scholarships were increased under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme.
- Viswanathan Anand ranked World number 3 in the rating list released by FIDE (World Chess Federation) on 1 April 2014. Anand with the Victory at the Candidates Tournament held in Russia in March 2014 has moved five places ahead from 8 to 3 with 2785 Elo points. According the rating list, Magnus Carlsen of Norway with Elo points 2881 ranks no 1 and Levon Aronian of America with 2812 ranks 2.
- New Managing Director of Nitta Gelatin India Ltd is Sajiv K Menon. This company is the joint venture of KSIDC and Japanese major Nitta Gelatin INC.
- In Badminton; Sourav Verma, P. Kashyap and R.M.V. Guru Sai Dutt enter the second round of the Men’s singles in Indian Open Super Series in New Delhi.
- BEST drivers and conductors finally ended their strike and resumed duties in Mumbai today. This has brought relief to over 40 lakh commuters who depend on the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus service for travel. The strike had lasted for 35 hours and had crippled the transport lifeline of Mumbai.
- In Afghanistan, six policemen were killed and at least seven others wounded in a suicide attack at the Interior Ministry in central Kabul.
- As per the Landmark Government Policy 3 million workers of UK were out of Income Tax. Tax free personal allowances increased to 10,000 pounds in 2014-15. According to this, more than 2 lakh people do not need to pay income tax anymore.
- International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) imposed a transfer ban on Spanish club FC Barcelona at both national and international level on 2 April 2014. This ban will prohibit FC Barcelona from buying and/or selling players for the next two transfer windows (June 2014 and January 2015).
