- New Zealand former Wicketkeeper, Gareth Hopkins, announced his retirement. He spent 17 years in cricket career. He is 37 years old. Hopkins played 10 Twenty 20 Internationals, 25 ODI and 4 tests. In 158 first class matches, he had scored 7550 runs which include 34 half centuries and 17 centuries. Hopkins claimed 26 stumping and 435 catches.
- Maruti Suzuki, on Friday, said it would recall over one lakh units of its popular models; Ertiga, Swift and DZire to replace faulty fuel filler neck.
- Shinzo Abe Prime Minister of Japan approved new energy policy. As per the new policy, nuclear power will act as main source of electricity. Previous administrative plans will reverse. It is cheap in terms of the operational costs. This electricity can generate throughout the day.
- President Pranab Mukherjee presented the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowships and Sangeet Natak Akademi awards for 2013 at a function at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on 11 April 2014. Akademi Ratna, the Fellowship, was conferred on Dr. Kanak Rele, R. Sathyanarayana, and Mahesh Elkunchwar. The Fellows received a cash purse of Rs 3 lakh. The awards for overall contribution andscholarship in the performing arts were presented to Mysore V. Subramanya and N. Ramanathan.

- State Bank of India has mopped up $1.25 billion in overseas debt sale through a dual tranche bond programme, making it the largest ever offering from a domestic issuer.
- The Election Commission (EC) banned BJP leader Amit Shah and SP leader Azam Khan from holding public meetings, processions or roadshows in Uttar Pradesh and asked authorities to initiate criminal proceedings against them. The EC also directed the chief secretary to ensure that no act of commission or omission is resorted to by BJP leader Amit Shah and UP Minister Azam Khan that can affect public tranquility and law and order.
- IT major Infosys is poised to choose a CEO from outside its six founders as incumbent CEO SD Shibulal is set to exit well before the end of his term. Days before announcing its annual financial results, the company declared to the stock exchange that it will start its hunt for a new CEO, and interestingly, this time the search will include external candidates.
