- April 14th is celebrated as birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar who born on this day in the year 1891. President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Vice President Hamid Ansari paid tribute to Chief architect of the Indian constitution Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on his 123rd birth anniversary on 14 April 2014.
- For the first time, researchers in the UK announced to conduct a test on patient of artificial blood made from human stem cells.
- Baroda on 14 April 2014 won the National Syed Mustaq Ali Cricket T20 Trophy title after defeating Uttar Pradesh in the final match by three runs. The final match of the tournament was played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
- The 45-day long annual ban on fishing in the territorial waters along the east coast of the country started from the midnight on 14 April 2014. This ban is imposed annually to ensure time and space for the fish and other marine life to breed and multiply. During this period, the mechanized boats are barred from entering the deep seas for fishing till mid-night of 31 May 2014.
- India became net steel exporter in 2013-14 after a gap of 6 years and is likely to maintain the momentum in 2014-15 as producers are looking to dock more overseas shipment to tide over subdued domestic consumption. Total steel exports by India during the last fiscal stood at 5.59 million tonnes (MT), as against imports of 5.44 MT, Joint Plant Committee (JPC), a unit of the Steel Ministry, said in a report.
- Long-distance train services on the Konkan Railway have been disrupted after five wagons of a goods train derailed inside a tunnel between Ukshi and Sangameshwar stations near Ratnagiri. Five wagons of a 41-wagon empty goods train derailed at 8.10 AM. As cranes cannot enter the tunnel, services could not be restored even 12 to 14 hours after the incident. The derailment’s cause is not yet known.
