Padma Awards 2017 - List of Padma Awardees 2017
The Indian government announced its prestigious Padma Awards for 2017 on the eve of the 68th Republic Day i.e. January 25, 2017. Total 89 personalities from different fields have been chosen for India’s coveted civilian honours by the President.
The list of the Padma awardees comprises seven Padma Vibhushan and seven Padma Bhushan winners. Rest of 75 winners got Padma Shri honours.
Veteran political leaders Murli Manohar Joshi, Shared Pawar, former Lok Sabha speaker P.A. Sangma, carnatic music icon K.J. Yesudas and spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev won the Padma Vibhushan honour, India’s second most prestigious award after Bharat Ratna.
Nineteen of the Padma awardees are women and five winners are foreigners. Six awards will be given posthumously.
